Pride 25 Results:
Fedor Takes Heavyweight Title

By Mark Ginther

PRIDE.25: Body Blow
March 16, 2003
Marin Yokohama Arena - Yokohama, Kanagawa-Pref., Japan

PRIDE 25, in the Yokohama Arena, was the most exciting PRIDE event in a long while, if not the best ever. With 8 fights on the card, only three went the distance and four ended in knockout. Nothing about the night was predictable, especially the main event where Emelianenko Fedor won a unanimous decision over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, winning the PRIDE Heavyweight title.

As expected, Fedor dropped bombs on Nogueira (on his back with Fedor in his guard), but surprisingly to many, didn't tire after the first round and slipped out of every submission Nogueira attempted. Nogueira has a phenomenal chin, weathering an incredible amount of punishment from Fedor, but was never able to get the finishing hold he was looking for.

The results:
  • Antonio Rogerio Nogueira defeats Kazuhiro Nakamura (of Yoshida Dojo) by armbar 3:30 into the second round.

  • Akira Shoji wins a split decision over Alex Stiebling

  • Alexander Otsuka wins a unanimous decision over Kenichi Yamamoto

  • Anderson Silva defeats Carlos Newton by KO 6:26 into the 1st round.

  • Dan Henderson defeats Shungo Ohyama by KO 3:27 into the 1st round.

  • Nino "Elvis" Schembri defeats Kazushi Sakuraba by KO 6:07 into the 1st round.

  • Quinton "Rampage" Jackson defeats Kevin Randleman by KO 7:00 into the 1st round.

  • Emelianenko Fedor defeats Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira by unanimous decision.
