After Pride 12, Dream Stage Entertainment implemented rule changes that were designed to impact action during the fight. Not only did these rules play a significant factor, they also contributed to one of the most vicious nights of fighting Pride has ever put on. Vanderlei Silva relished the limelight, and put the new rules to good use. Dominating action, Silva hurt Sakuraba with punches and knees, both standing and on the ground. Silva finished the overwhelmed Japanese sensation by soccer kicking him to the head several times. Sakuraba, the man many considered the top fighter under 200lbs, valiantly tried to take Silva down, but was severely outgunned and paid a dear price. Igor Vovchanchyn was upset by Lions Den stand-in Tra Telligman. Taking mentor Ken Shamrock's place, Telligman gave the Russian destroyer all he could handle, and a bit more as all three judges awarded the decision to him. Many others shined, including Mark Coleman who made his return to action after a 10-month layoff. Coleman dominated Allen Goes destroying him with knees to his head on the ground.
